Sock It To Poverty 2007
Dear Friends of the Center:
Every day there are individuals and families whose lives
are in crisis as a result of unemployment, disability, homelessness or other
crucial problems. People who have no where else to turn come to the
Redemptorist
Social
Services
Center
for help. Our staff and volunteers are dedicated to finding ways to help them,
but to continue doing that we need your help.
The
Redemptorist
Center
is asking for your help in supporting Sock It To Poverty, the Center’s major annual fundraising
collection for new socks and underwear. Last year’s collection of 21,000 items
was an exceptional outpouring of generosity especially with your tremendous
response to the victims of Katrina. This
year we are hoping to collect over 30,000 pairs of new socks and underwear for
the needy in our community! We will once again share them with over 30
local agencies including the Salvation Army, Operation Breakthrough,
Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries and Cross-Lines.
New socks and underwear are the most requested and least
donated clothing items, especially adult white crew socks. Sock It To Poverty is a
unique and effective way to help those in need with something that means so much
to them. This fundraiser will greatly benefit the Center’s on-going programs
of emergency assistance that include the food pantry, clothes closet, rent and
utility assistance; health care promotion and disease prevention; active seniors
and homebound programs.
Please consider joining over 38 organizations and schools
in holding a new sock and underwear collection drive at your business. The
Center will provide promotional flyers, collection barrels, and delivery and
pick-up of the barrels. You may pick any date you prefer prior to September 29th.
Some companies choose to have
employees donate new socks and underwear and/or contribute a small amount of
money as a fee to wear silly socks. Many companies even have contests involved
with Silly Sock Day. You choose how to best structure it for your company. The
most important part is to be involved. Each pair of socks will warm the feet of
a poor or elderly person in the coming winter months. And imagine how you
would feel if you didn’t have underwear!

participate in Sock
It To Poverty. Donating a pair of new socks or underwear is an easy yet
meaningful act that will greatly benefit someone less fortunate.
