  Active Aging

The Seniors Club is a major component of the Redemptorist Social Services Center, and it is the location where many of our Active Aging programs take place.  The Seniors Club is open Monday through Thursday.   The Club is fully accessible to those with physical challenges.

The mission of the Active Aging program is to serve men and women aged 55 and above from any part of the KC metro area by providing quality activities and services that are life enhancing and aid in independence.  Too often seniors fall into a pattern of isolation, depression, health problems and long term care.  The Active Aging program provides free health and nutrition education and a full calendar of activities to help seniors stay healthy, active and engaged in their communities.

Programs include free hot lunches, healthy cooking classes, a computer lab with computer classes, quilting, yoga, life enrichment classes, safe driving classes, and fun field trips.  Holiday celebrations are big events in the Seniors Club, and every lady gets a dance at our annual St. Pat’s Ball in March that is sponsored by the O’Neill family. 

Services to seniors don’t stop at our door.  The Active Aging program also includes outreach to homebound seniors.  Services to the homebound include monthly food deliveries, home health assessments, a senior companion program, reassurance telephone calls, hospital visits, and help in crisis situations.

In addition to the Active Aging program, our Legal Assistance  program specializes in free assistance with senior legal issues.  Our staff attorney can help seniors with preparation for end-of-life issues (including living wills), public entitlement applications and appeals, basic housing and insurance issues.

Our Health Maintenance  program also specializes in the health issues of seniors.
